National News
Thanks for visiting my site.

We now have less than a year until the general election. We will be using the time to hold the Government to account and to campaign for the new policies which Warrington and the country now need so badly.

We must not permit Gordon Brown and his tired and ineffective Government  another 5 years.  Britain is a great country and Warrington is a great place to live. But things could be so much better.

We are campaigning hard and winning. Our membership has increased by over 50% in the last year. Please come and join. All are welcome.

Best Wishes

David Mowat
Prospective MP
Warrington South

MP Expenses:

Like everybody else I am shocked and disappointed by so much of what we have seen. I am also pleased that my leader has been at the forefront it taking decisive action when necessary. Follow this link to read my approach to expenses after the election. Read More.

Euro Election Result:

This was another excellent result for us in Warrington. Highlights are as follows:

-Easily top of the poll with an even higher swing in Warrington than we achieved nationally.
-We won 3 seats. The LibDems won one and Labour two.
-In Warrington we had a swing to us from Labour of over 7%. We also had a swing to us from the LibDems whose vote went down substantially from 2004. Just as at the last general election they were a poor third.

With this result in a general election we would expect to beat Labour and regain this seat. Thanks to all of you that voted. Read More.

Warrington Jobs Club:

We kicked off our Jobs Club on April 18th and we will be continue to meet on most Saturday mornings between now and August.

Unemployment in Warrington is now over 5000 and we aim assist in skills building, interview preparation and technique. You will also meet some new people and local business leaders. This will assist in networking building which is an important source of job information. So far nearly 40% of all those who have attended our courses have been successful. You could be too.

For more information and dates of upcoming meetings follow this link. Read More.
Or just fill out an Application Form.

Mersey Gateway Bridge Toll:

The Government is now refusing to fund this critical piece of infrastructure for the North West. There is a proposal to finance the scheme with a toll which, according to traffic modelling will increase the flows through Warrington by up to 5-10%. This will impact Appleton, Great Sankey, Stockton Heath, Penketh and parts of Lymm. The town is already congested enough, we should not allow the Government to just dump more traffic here. Other parts of the country are having similar schemes funded. Ours should be too.

Over 3000 signatures have now been collected and were recently delivered to Shadow Minister of State for Transport Theresa Villiers. Sign Our Online Petition.

David Mowat has presented to the Planning inspector at the Public Enquiry which took place in Runcorn during May/June. It is crucial that if tolls are imposed they are as low as possible. This is not the current plan.  So far the Council response to this scheme has been weak. A memorandum was signed which offers Warrington little. We are fighting to ensure that Warrington gets a better deal. Read More.

Titan Victory: But what now for Omega?:

Like nearly everybody else in Warrington I am delighted that after a campaign lasting over 6 months the Government has now decided to abandon plans for a massive 2,500 inmate Titan prison on the Omega Site. Local Conservatives were joined by William Hague last week in a final push to prevent Jack Straw going ahead. Congratulations also to members of the WRAPP group who have campaigned long and hard on this. Read More.

But a major problem remains. Little substantial has happened on the Omega Site for a decade and there seems to be no plans to drive forward the development. Until the Council begin to take seriously the need to make progress with developing a business park there will be a risk of a smaller prison or something equally unacceptable such as an incinerator. Keep fighting for jobs on Omega. We will.
