David Mowat Condemns Labour Failure on Social Mobility

August 31st

The hallmark of a civilised society is the fact that all have the chance "to be the best that they can be".  The recent OECD report on social mobility highlights the massive failure that Labour have made in this area over the past 13 years.

"Britains low levels of social mobility and high level of inequality are a seriois cause for concern. The  OECD is right that money needs to be targeted at poorer pupils if we are to close the educationbal gap between top and bottom. That is why two years ago the Conservatives proposed a plan for education reform with an explicit premium attcahed to children from less well off backgrounds. Labour have failed a generation of children which is why we need a Conservative Government that takes the necessary steps to remove this block on opportunity."

High Speed Rail Link

David Mowat expressed concern that the Government have apparently planned to electrify the wrong line between Liverpool and Manchester. The decision to upgrade the line is welcome but the choice of the track which goes through Newton Le Willows and not Warrington seems bizarre.

David Mowat says "the decision to ignore the Atlantic Gateway Corridor  means that many of the development sites in the North West will be ignored. In particular Omega, Birchwood Business Park and Warrington town centre............"

It seems to be a case of Warrington losing out again when a major transport initiative is being progressed.
