Closure of Test Centre Impacts Warrington Pass Rates

Warrington Young People impacted by requirement to take test in St Helens or Northwich.
Dec 22nd

The Warrington Driving test centre was closed in September  inspite of warnings from driving professionals across the town that there was a risk of  Warrington learners being disadvantaged.  The problem is that Warrington based learners are unable to "practice" near the location of their test as the journey time could take up practically the entire one hour lesson.  Warrington based instructor Peter Garbuck said "as part of test preparation it is important that students become familiar with the road set ups around the actual test area....this is now much much harder and pass rates will be affected.........."

David Mowat says   "It is understandable that people want to learn to drive in the same place as their test.  The situation is even worse in relation to motorcycle test.

The problem we will face after the election, of course, is that many of the old test centres will have been sold of.     It is really not good enough for Ministers to hide behind the DSA when ultimately Ministers have responsibility in this area."

Eric Pickles Joins "No" Campaign.

Shadow Minister Visits Warrington to Campaign Against Congestion Charge.
December 4th

Over 15,000 drivers commute to Manchester from Warrington every day. And not one of them will get the chance to vote on Labour's plan to charge them up to £1200 pa.  Eric Pickles, Shadow Minister for Local Government, visited Warrington to pick up the  2700 signatures that have so far been collected.

Pickles said, ''this proposal is nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with raising money.........I believe it is fundamentally undemocratic to impose such a large tax on so many people and to give them no chance to vote........"
David Mowat said "there is no plan to increase the scope of the tram system to encompass parts of Warrington/Lymm........an even more creative alternative would have been to  build a station on the line between Chester and Stockport....but nothing........they just want the money.........."

December 11th Update
A re-sounding no vote. Over 79% of voters in Greater Manchester said no to this flawed scheme. Thank you to all those that campaigned so hard on this.
